Fresh Scents

Little touches can make big impacts in a home.  Today my grandmother brought me wonderful smelling fresh mint and other herbs.  What a way to keep the kitchen smelling fresh without the harsh chemical scent.  Plus an added bonus is it's cuteness!

I decided to put my other herbs: chive, basil and parsley in $1.00 ikea white planters and put them on my dining room table for a lively centerpiece.

Fresh makes "scents"! :-P

Leftover Paint Organization

Finally, I took the time to get rid of all my big and always "in the way" paint cans.  With all the great tips and tricks I find from pinterest using mason jars to store leftover paint is genius!  This Saturday I tackled my paint organizing project and now that it's done I feel so much better that I checked one more thing off my list of things to do.
I think using mason jars to store leftover paint is sooooooo much better looking and now I will have more space in my house for other things.
I didn't forget to label the colors and paint brand!  Just incase I need to do a major overhaul and need to know the paint information.

This 15 minute project was a much needed one and I think they look so gosh darn cute!

Dining Room

This week I tackled the dining room.  This room used to be very bare and I had no storage.  Not anymore, I did a little redecorating and added extra storage to suit our needs.

BEFORE

AFTER

To break up the dark colors in the room I added two white end chairs from ikea.

To start with newly added storage, my grandparents gave us a much needed wine rack from Christmas Tree Shoppes.  We love our wine at this house!
As you can tell, some bottles are already gone ;)

Since the dining room is open to the kitchen I wanted to tie in our country kitchen to the dining room by adding a little country touch to the wine rack.

Another new addition, is the buffet stand my aunt purchased for us from Kirklands.  (What would I do without my family?!)  This cute sideboard creates so much more storage that we needed to bring our neat dining ware up from the basement.

The first row of baskets holds all of my napkins.

The second row of baskets hold all of my melt-away, candles and candelabras.

On the bottom of the buffet I finally have storage for all of our nice dining ware.  It used to be in the basement and we never used it, but not anymore!  Now with everything located where it should be it gets used more. (Sorry for the blurry picture.)

Once again, since the dining room is also open to the office I added the touch of green napkins from Pier 1 to tie the rooms together.  The napkin rings are also from Pier 1.

Just like every other room in the house this room is far from being completed, but I think it is a great start! I love the colors and I love that it isn't formal, but more casual which suits this household.

Master Bath

This week to complete my whole master suite I decided to work on my master bath.  It too, like all my other rooms, was a nightmare that desperately needed an organizing makeover!

BEFORE

AFTER

To start with my closet I organized my towels by color.  I also placed fabric bins from ikea on top of my sterlite container to store my most used items such as TP and feminine products.

Since there is a lot of open space on the lower end of my closet I needed more compartments so I placed a Sterlite container and labeled each drawer: hair curlers, cleaning supplies, and extra supplies.

On the very top of my shelf I bought four bins from wal-mart to store all of my medicine.  They are all organized into their proper containers: cold/throat/flu, head/menstrual, anti acid/stomach/gas, and band aids/first aid.

The only thing different in my shower is the nice shower caddy I purchased from Target.  I love it because I no longer get the nasty soap scum underneath my body products like I used to when they just sat on the shower seat.

My favorite and cheapest organizer I purchased is underneath my sink vanity.  I bought a stackable container set from Wal-mart for $4 each and they are a perfect fit for under my sink.

I bought a his and hers stackable unit, but to show it off I am showing how I divided it up: body spray, deodorant, and lotion/shaving supplies.

On the left side of the sink I have all of my head bands and extra beauty products in a cheap container from wal mart.  For my cue tips, plackers and cotton balls I re-used old candle containers to store them in.

On the right side of the sink, I have a container holding all of my hair utensils/products I use the most.  I also store all of my makeup in a cute thirty one bag.  It is nice to have it in a bag all ready to go when I need to take it with me somewhere.

In my skinny little drawer I bought an organizer from walmart for about $5 to sort my contacts, bobby pins, hair ties, hair brush and straightener.  This drawer was a nightmare before....I could never find anything.
The last little addition to add storage in our small bathroom is containers I bought from ikea. So far I only have facial towels in the one container.  I need to figure out what else I can use these wonderful containers for.

With the bathroom now organized my life is so much easier, especially in the mornings.  I always wasted time trying to find what I need or I would keep buying the same products we didn't need because I didn't have a good visual of our inventory.  Not anymore! My bathroom is another room far from finished, but it definitely simplifies my life a little more by being organized!
